Study Abroad Dates & Deadlines

We recommend that you start researching and planning for your semester or year abroad no later than the fall semester of your sophomore year. If you transfer to Clarkson after your sophomore year, contact the Career Center and we’ll get you up to speed.

Application Deadline
The Study Abroad Exchange Program Outbound Application is due the second week of January for the upcoming academic year. For example, if you want to study abroad during the fall semester of 2012 or spring semester of 2013, the application is due in January 2012.

Important Dates 2011-2012

October 2011
  • October 10: Attend the “Study Abroad Exchange Fair” at 6:15 p.m. in the ERC Commons. Collect information on each of our over 30 international exchange partners in 16 countries.
  • October 24: Attend the “Study Abroad Exchange Processes Q&A/Panel” at 6:15 p.m. in SC162. Get your questions about the study abroad application process, how to get a passport or visa, financial aid and more answered.
  • Make an appointment with your academic advisor to plan out the best time to study abroad (prior to registration for the spring semester). Talk about which exchange institutions would fit best with your major.
November 2011
  • November 7: Attend the “Study Abroad Exchange Application Meeting” at 6:15 p.m. in SC160 to clarify any questions you may have about the study abroad application and other required forms.
  • Meet again with your academic advisor to choose the classes you will take while studying abroad. Also, create a list of the classes that you would normally take at Clarkson during the time you plan to be away. You will need this information for the application.
  •  Look over the Study Abroad Exchange Program Outbound Application carefully. You will need to submit two letters of recommendation with your application, at least one from a Clarkson faculty or staff member. This is a good time to request those. Also, you will need to write a 300-word essay to include with the application discussing the reasons why you wish to study abroad. If you don’t already have a passport, apply for one. You will need to show proof of a passport or passport application.
January 2012
  • The study abroad exchange application is due right after you get back from Winter Break, during the second week of January. Don’t wait until the last minute to start!
February 2012
