On Campus Component

At the beginning of each academic year, online MBA students will come to Clarkson's campus for a short in-residence course in Leadership Development. The purpose of these courses is to help students understand the general principles and processes of effective leadership while giving them an opportunity to work with faculty and their fellow classmates face-to-face. These courses together cover the three total credits in Leadership Development required towards degree completion. Other online courses will begin immediately following this first on-campus session.

At the start of their first year, students will take Leadership Development I: Foundations of Leadership and Organizational Behavior. The course uses use text-based and video business cases and an intensive two-day business simulation to uncover students' skills and to help them practice working as a team. Topics covered in the course will focus on aspects of interpersonal behavior, including leadership, teamwork, conflict management, and power and influence.

For the class of 2011, Leadership Development I will take place Thursday, January 14th through Sunday, January 17th, 2010. For the class of 2012, Leadership Development I will begin on Thursday, August 26th and go until Sunday, August 29th, 2010.

At the start of their second year, students will take Leadership Development II: Leadership and Organizational Culture. This course will build upon the lessons learned in OS 602 and other MBA classes and allow students to further develop their leadership skills within an organizational setting. Topics covered in the course will focus on aspects of firm-level behavior, including power and influence, culture, and organizational congruence.

For the class of 2011, Leadership Development II, will take place starting Sunday, August 15th, through Tuesday, August 17th, 2010.
